Equipment Needed:

You will need the folliwing equipment for the course.

 

  • Buoyancy aid or Life Jacket (Limited number of buoyancy aids available)
  • Booties or old runners (Footwear must be worn at all times)
  • Wetsuit
  • Water/Wind proof jacket
  • Packed Lunch or (Hot food and tuck shop also available in club restaurant at lunch.)
All equipment is available from Sunset Sails, Adelaide St, Sligo or any good surfing/watersports shop.

TIMES:

  • 9.30am - 5.00pm Monday - Friday

 

 

Courses Offered:

Below is a list of the courses we offer to Junior Sailors, starting with 'A Taste of Sailing' or Level 1, as your experience improves, you move up the ladder as far as Level 4. Read on to find out more.

There are a basic set of requirements for participants of Level 3 and 4. These involve taking part in club racing aswell as racing on the national circuit. This will not only improve your skills as a sailor, but will also give you the chance to meet people from other clubs and race against them. These requirements, in the past, have proven without a doubt to be the best way to improve skills, while at the same time being great fun!

“A Taste of Sailing ” (1 week)

  • No experience required
  • Bring a wetsuit, booties or old runners, a light waterproof jacket and a buoyancy aid

Level 1: “Start Sailing” (2 weeks)

  • No experience required
  • Bring a wetsuit, booties or old runners, a light waterproof jacket and a buoyancy aid.
  • Learn the basics of sailing. Gain experience and confidence over 2 weeks.

Level 2: “Basic Skills” (2 weeks)

  • ISA Level 1 certificate required
  • No crewing experience necessary, but we encourage participation in club racing.
  • Learn how to helm a sailing boat under close supervision from instructors + more.

Level 3: “Improving Skills”
(3 weeks)

  • ISA Level 2 Certificate required
  • 15 Club races logged as crew OR 10 club races as Helm.*
  • Own boat an advantage
  • Learn more advanced sailing skills, how to race etc.

Level 4R: “Go Racing 1 ” (3 weeks)

  • ISA Level 3 Certificate required
  • Should have own boat (mirror etc)
  • 30 Club Races logged as Helm and 2 Regional Events*. (Bronze fleet regatta, westerns, nationals etc)
  • Improve your racing skills and learn advanced techniques. Learn how to win!
Other courses on offer include “Advanced Boat Handling”, “Go Racing 2” and “Kites 1”. The suitability of these can be discussed with instructing staff at the beginning of or during the course.
