There are a number of ferry options depending on the individual’s point of origin.
From Holyhead the sea journey time is 3 hours to either Dublin Port or Dun Laoghaire.
From there the road trip to Sligo takes 3 hours (about 1/3rd on motorway – M4 - and the rest on good class national primary roads - N4).
Having made the journey in the opposite direction we can say that it is not a difficult one. For anyone not bringing a boat there is a rail service from Dublin and direct flights from various parts of the UK to Knock airport (about 1 hour from Sligo). There are commuter flights from Dublin to Sligo Airport itself.
