| Handover of the new
building finally took place on Monday July 3rd, with members
returning the following Sunday 9th with an informal get together.
Sailing continued as usual, with The
Junior Sailing Courses commencing on Monday 10th July.
Preparations are in full swing for the
Failte Ireland, GP14 Class World Championships.
The Redevelopment will bring a much needed revamp to the club and will meet
the needs of the club as it develops over the coming years.
Currently the club is involved
in major fund raising and a scheme is in place to allow members gift
a contribution to the club which allows the club to recoup the tax
relief.
Contact Damien Brennan or
Keville Burns for further details.
The old
club house was gutted and the ground floor became the new male
and female changing rooms. Also, teh Cadet Training Rooms and boat
house are on this floor. The area of both changing rooms will be
significantly increased. The existing first floor will
changed into a members bar slightly bigger then the current “America’s
Cup Bar” in the same location over looking Sligo Bay. The
remaining first floor area will become a large function area and
an extension to the west will accommodate a new stairs, Kitchen,
Bar store, committee room / office, Marina Office and female and male toilets
and disabled toilet.
The members and committee of Sligo
Yacht Club are 100% behind this project as it will not only benefit
the members but give a large, well needed boost to sailing in the
west of Ireland and also benefit the large numbers of visitors and
trainees who use the club facilities annually. |
